Regardless I am back. And over the story that should not be.

First I simply have to point point out the disturbing similarity between Don Imus and “Throw Momma From the Train” star… Anne Ramsey. Does no one else see this?

Now I’ve never actually listened to Imus for more than a few seconds at a time, and I have zero respect for DJ’s and radio personalities in general. They are the used-car salesmen of the airwaves. Imus’s comments were stupid and insulting. And I’m sure that when the Rutgers women’s basketball team all huddled around their radio to tune in to Imus’s show that morning, they were shocked and hurt by his words. So he apologized. Does that make it right? No, not really. but there’s not much else he can do. So he was fired. Does that help? Well, it absolves NBC, but he’ll likely get a job elsewhere when this all blows over. But what else can he do?

So why are we still talking about it? Why does CNN continue to spend days on this? Why is every “black leader” making airtime on the subject? And why am I ending my 8 month silence to speak out on this of all things?

Indeed.

Well we burned through everyone being pissed at Imus (the news covered that to death). We’re somewhere in the middle of the backlash against the trumped up outrage by “black leadership” (the news and bloggers are furiously squawking about this still). And we’re probably just about starting the backlash against the media for over-hyping and over-covering this story. Stewart said it already of course. But now I’m hearing others as well. Stupid media. Always cramming their agenda down our throat.

Well wake up people, this is just as ridiculous as griping about the exorbitant salaries of pro athletes and movie stars. This stuff doesn’t exist in a vacuum. If no one watched CNN’s 24 hour Imus-watch, then there would be no 24 hour Imus watch. If people refused to pay $50 a ticket, A-Rod wouldn’t be making $6 million a year. If people didn’t thirst for celebrity news with such vigor, then the Enquirer wouldn’t exist and there wouldn’t have been paparazzi chasing Diana in Paris.

In this case… if no one is there to hear it, the falling tree won’t make a sound.

You did it. We did it. Tired of endless coverage? Turn it off. You have no one to blame but yourselves for the things that happen in this world. Take some responsibility for once! You can’t blame people for filling a need that we create. “Black Leadership” (and I use quotes here because it is a self-appointed title and I think it’s insulting to black people to believe they all uniformly hail these nuts as their kings (pun intended))… “black leadership” basically gets handed an open mic on a national stage… you think they should pass? Everyone’s talking about Imus’s comments and their reaction to the comments and the reaction to the reactions… and you think the media should just give us real news instead? Well ask for it!! If enough people wanted real news we would have it. But we don’t. If enough people wanted to hear the truth about tough issues, we would have visionary leaders in government, not just the best liars. We are all to blame.

Do something about it or stop your bitching.

And yes I am aware of the irony that most people who find this article will find it because they have typed in “Imus” into a search engine in the hopes of finding the latest news or opinion on this scandalous non-story. To those idiots I have just one thing to say…

“Thank you for visiting”.

Where are the Conservatives?

Why have they gone into hiding?


Well, they are not in the Democratic Party, and they are few and far between in the Republican Party.

The reign of the Bush-era Republican Congress was one of disdain for me. Looking back, I was sickened by how the Revolution of 1994 turned in on itself, and the Republican Majority became the Establishment Majority. Conservative Values were tossed aside.

Now, after the 2006 election, Republicans are in retreat, and are running in the wrong direction. They are more worried about keeping their remaining seats than they are in standing by the values that got them elected in the first place.
Instead of staying by their base, they are placating the left, thinking the moderate vote lives there.

Now, as we move closer to the Presidential Election of 2008 (which is still quite early, in my opinion) the Republican Base is crying for a conservative candidate.

Looking at the current field, we see:

• Rudy Giuliani
• John McCain
• Mitt Romney
• Sam Brownback
• John Cox
• Duncan Hunter
• Jim Gilmore
• Mike Huckabee
• Ron Paul
• Tom Tancredo
• Tommy Thompson

While all of these men have some conservative leanings, non of them are stand out conservative leaders.
McCain has the most leadership potential, in my opinion, but his recent dealings in the past 8 years have left questions in many Republican Minds.

One potential candidate is out there, that Conservatives are pining for:

• Newt Gingrich

Newt has not said he is running, and is leaning towards not running. Though, he is disturbed as most Core Republicans are, that there are no Conservative Leaders, currently, in the Republican Party, or the Presidential Candidates.

What is the Republican Party to do?
Is there anything they can do?

I was listening to a program, this weekend, about the Gilded Age of American History (after the Civil War) [I call it the Ass-end of American History], and compared it to today. While I disagree with the Comparison, the end of the Gilded Age was the asscendancy of Theodore Roosevelt, a maverick.

McCain, seems to be the Gilded Maverick of today.

So what say you?

Do we need a conservative, or do we need a Maverick?
Or do we need both?

Now, this is deadly, and will lead to pure anarchy if this is mass produced to everyone-and-their-grandmother, because it will empower criminals and evil-doers to communicate freely, without fear of being uncovered.

As I’m reading this book, it is the EXACT OPPOSITE PLOT of the Movie Sneakers.

In Sneakers, our heroes deal with an activist hacker who acquires a device which can crack ANY code, which would prevent governments from keeping secrets.

One activist creates an algorithm to generate an unbreakable code so everyone can have secrets.
One activist creates an algorithm to make the ultimate code breaker, so no one can have secrets.
Both lead down the road to anarchy?

I found that dichotomy fascinating.

But, at the same time, I found it in line with the rest of the universe.
Too much of something is often fatal, including secrets.

Amazing.

Last night, incumbent Joe Lieberman lost the democratic primary for the Conneticut Senatorial seat to the more liberal Ned Lamont. At the same time, incumbent Michigan Republican Joe Schwartz lost his primary to his more conservative challenger.

I don’t know what else to say… other than “why am I in this handbasket?”

Any takers? Trend or mirage?

Well that almost never seems to come true. Take Dika Newlin, who just passed away recently. She was a musical prodigy as a child…

At age 11, Newlin composed a symphonic work, “Cradle Song,” which was performed by the Cincinnati Symphony. A few years later, in 1941, the work was performed in New York with another prodigy, 11-year-old Lorin Maazel, at the NBC Summer Symphony podium.

Newlin was among the last surviving pupils of Arnold Schoenberg. Her 1980 book Schoenberg Remembered: Diaries and Recollections 1938-76, traces her experiences studying with the composer.

A native of Portland, Oregon, Newlin graduated from the University of Michigan at 16 and earned a doctorate from Columbia University at 22.

And while she was no slouch in her later life…

Newlin composed three operas, a symphony, a piano concerto and chamber works, and she began exploring popular music in the mid-’80s.

I doubt one could say she changed the world in ways you might have expected when first hearing her play as a child.

Inspired by her college students, she sang and played keyboards in a band called Apocowlypso. More recently [in her 70's] she performed as a flame-haired punk rocker and performance artist, singing works such as “Murder Kitty,” composed solely of meows.

Dika Newlin died recently at age 82. But one thing can be said for certain, she enjoyed her life. Every minute of it from I can tell, and maybe that’s where her real genius lies.
