As we near the end of the 2006 World Cup, we have heard much about fans watching the games… countries that nearly shut down, wars that are put on hold. We’ve seen fans assemble in stadiums across the globe to watch on giant television screens and we’ve see tiny villages huddle around a single small black and white tv.
For those of you who think you are fans… of ANY sport, I wanted to share these inspiring stories:

From the “I-survived-Guantanamo-Bay, and-all-I-got-was-this-lousy T-shirt” Department
Well, the Supreme Court has spoken, here endeth the lesson.
Some are calling it a victory for Terrorists.
Others are calling it a defeat for George W. Bush, and a declaration that the War in Iraq is illegal.
I’m not sure what to call it.
Today, the Supreme Court, in a 5-3 decision, ruled that the Military Tribunals held in Guantanamo Bay are a mistep of Presidential Authority, and do not correctly protect the prisoner’s rights, or follow the Geneva conventions.

There are two kinds of people in the world: people who like to climb mountains and people who like to stand on top of mountains.
I was listening to Jim Rome yesterday morning - something I do about once a month - that’s pretty much all I can take of his egotistical cynicism. We have protests about supposed, unproven, and unjustifiably inaccurate reports of torture in Guantanamo Bay. (Where the International Red Cross has an office ON BASE.) We have news reports of Abu Ghraib months and months after the incident. And our stinkin’ White-Guilt is only focusing on heresay of OUR misdeeds.
Meanwhile, our heroes are being mutilated and it seems like this is supposed to be the status quo.
Even the The White House is uncomfortably quiet about this.
